The Calligraphy World of Yasuko Suzuki
Japanese English
What is Calligraphy?
The word “Calligraphy” originated from the Greek word “Kalligraphia” which means “beautiful handwriting.” Throughout the long history of the West, many typefaces have been developed and they reflect the cultures of each era. People have been using the alphabet not only for communication but also as a visual tool to express the meaning of the words.
“Painting the poetry” is the best way I’ve found to explain what calligraphy is to me. How I express myself with different forms and designs is its most interesting and fascinating aspect of calligraphy—the joy for me is to create the letters and, yes, “paint the poetry.”
